What's cooking inside Meizu's lab? Force Touch Explained! Edited by Arunabh at 2016-03-16 23:00
What is Force Touch? Force Touch is an entirely new way to interact with your phone. It is a pressure sensitive multi-touch technology that enables trackpads and touchscreens to distinguish between different levels of force being applied to their surface. It brings a new dimension of functionality to the smartphones. Force touch is sensitive and responds to subtle taps. So not only you will see what a press can do, you'll feel it. Why Apple calls it 3D Touch? 3D Touch is Apple's branding for the new pressure sensitivity feature on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. It is a more sensitive version of Force Touch that detects a dynamic range of pressure to a microscopic degree. 3D Touch works using capacitive sensors integrated directly into the display. When a press is detected, these capacitive sensors measure microscopic changes in the distance between the backlight and the cover glass. This information is then combined with accelerometer signals and touch sensors to provide an accurate interpretation of the user's intentions. It may sound like a gimmick, but the truth is it's not. When you use it, you'll quickly realize that there's a logic behind what 3D Touch does and how it could be useful. How it could be useful on smartphones? Apple has implemented the use of 3D Touch into their own apps. You can hard press on an app icon to see a preview of the next thing or get a few shortcuts directly into a section of the app. Like for taking a selfie, you can hard press the camera icon on the homescreen and it will list a few shortcuts and from there, you can directly jump into opening the front camera to take a selfie. So, it saves a few extra steps as well. What's cooking inside Meizu's lab? After many rumors and leaks that we have seen in the past couple of months, Meizu had recently confirmed that their upcoming flagship smartphone "Meizu PRO 6" will feature a Force Touch display and the phone will be powered by Mediatek's new Helio x25 deca-core processor clocked at 2.5 Ghz. So, it will be interesting to see how Meizu makes the use of this technology in their apps and whether it will work on other third party apps. Full coverage on PRO 6 when the device launches. Stay tuned! Keep checking our forum for more interesting articles and latest Meizu updates! *What do you think Meizu would call this Technology? *Force Touch, 3D Touch, Sense Touch or something else?
