After receiving tremendous response in India, leading Chinese smartphone brand Meizu on Thursday announced its fifth consecutive open sale for its m2 handset exclusively on online portal Snapdeal.
Meizu m2 has been acknowledged and appreciated as one of the most budget friendly smartphones of 2015. Recently Meizu concluded two online contests -- #MerrywithMeizu and #Meizu #aZm2for1-- on its Facebook and Twitter pages. Meizu m2 has a 5-inch 720p high definition display with Dragontrail Glass, 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6753 processor with 2 GB DDR3 RAM. It is loaded with a 13-megapixel primary camera with flash and 5-megapixel front camera with FotoNation 2.0 for smart selfie enhancement. Having an internal memory of 16 GB, which can be extended by a 128 GB memory card, Meizu m2 has a single slot for two nano-SIMs and the card. The phone, priced at Rs.6,999, has a 2500mAh battery, allowing a call time of up to 23 hours and 12 hours of browsing internet with screen and Wi-Fi connection turned on.

Chinese smartphone maker Meizu Telecom Equipment Co Ltd said it is aiming to sell 25 million handsets next year, a 25-percent jump compared with its shipments in 2015.
"We will look for a steady growth in 2016 after years of quick sales surge," said Li Nan, vice-president of the Guangdong-based company. "In 2016 we will try to improve user experience by expanding the service network." The announcement came after Meizu, which the e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd is the major shareholder of, reported a threefold year-on-year increase of smartphone shipments for 2015 amid weakening demand in China. However, the shipment lags behind market leaders such as Huawei Technologies and Xiaomi Corp, who used to have a sales target of 100 million unit for 2015. "Given the fact that the overall market growth will go flat in the next year, I think our goal remains pretty aggressive," Li said. The Chinese smartphone market contracted by 4 percent year-on-year in the first quarter, the first decline in six years, research company IDC has found. James Yan, a Beijing-based IDC analyst, said Meizu and other emerging local vendors are betting on the affordable market for shipment growth, grabbing market leaders' territory. Except for the iPhone product line, the average mobile phone selling price was $186 in the country as of the third quarter. More than 40 percent of the devices are priced in the $100-200 range, according to IDC. Most of Meizu's products fell into this category. Meizu is in a dogfight with Xiaomi, the second-largest vendor in China, for young consumers who are tech-savvy but price-sensitive. In February, Alibaba invested $500 million in Meizu, funding the expansion on retail channels and innovation.

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Meizu was supposed to release its Pro 5 flagship smartphone on Oct. 12, but the company announced that a typhoon flooded its factory and will cause it to delay the release. While a tech company sharing bad news about delays is nothing new, the way Meizu is making up for their unfortunate situation may be a lesson in how to say sorry.
The exact reasons for the Pro 5’s delayed launch are murky. For one thing, Meizu originally said the phone’s launch would be pushed to November, only to revise that statement and say the delay will be only six days. There’s also a rumor that the true reason behind the delay is an issue with the device’s NFC cover, according to MobiPicker. Whatever the case, Meizu is apologizing to its customers by compensating them for the delay. All buyers of the Pro 5 will receive free accident insurance; buyers of the 32GB version of the phone will receive a free headset worth about $20; and buyers of the 64GB version of the phone will get the headset plus $20 in Flyme store coupons (Flyme is Meizu’s Android skin). All of the elements of Meizu’s “sorry” to its customers will cost the company about $1.5 million. The Pro 5 will have a 5.7-inch display, 5MP front-facing camera, and 21MP rear camera. The smartphone will run on an octa-core Samsung Exynos 7420 processor, which also powers the Galaxy S6 line and the Galaxy Note 5. The version of the phone with 32GB of storage and 3GB of RAM will cost about $439, while the version with 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM will cost about $486, according to Phone Arena.

China market: Meizu 2015 smartphone shipments to reach over 20 million units
Smartphone shipments by Meizu in 2015 will reach over 20 million units, increasing 350% from a year earlier, according to a China-based qq.com report, citing company vice president Li Nan. Strong sales of Meizu's Meilan-series models, which feature high performance/price ratios, in the mid-range segment contributed to sales growth at Meizu, said the report. However, Meizu will shift its focus to improve user experience and satisfaction in 2016 instead of boosting sales, Li said. Meizu aims to ramp up its smartphone shipments by 25% on year to 25 million units in 2016, Li revealed, adding that the company also looks to make a breakthrough in high-end models.
