The only thing I have noticed so far is that the system is faster which is a good thing.

Since some of the users here write the most but say the least, I'll try to be as specific as I can. Performancewise there might be an improvement. I can't say that the system is faster (I was perfectly happy with the previous beta), but it might feel a bit smoother to use. BUT, I did have some initial trauma - I had to install the second beta twice before it started working normally (the system would use the CPU on its lowest speed most of the time). Also, the phone heats up quite a bit even during normal use, i.e. web browsing or watching YouTube videos, which wasn’t the case with beta 1 or stable versions. Gaming: well I’m not much of a gamer but I do use two games to check the performance. One is graphics/system heavy – Asphalt 8 Airborne and the second one is a simple arcade game Will Hero. Strangely the former performs better than the latter. Asphalt hasn’t dropped a frame even once while Hero has hiccups now and then. Battery life: Well, here I have to start with the 6.1.4.1G - I would normally get 5 to 6 hours of screen-on time or a day and a half to two days of use. Then came the 6.1.4.3G which improved the battery life by quite a margin - screen-on time 7 - 8 hours and two and a half to three and a half days of use. The first beta dropped to 6.5 - 7 hours of screen-on time and I think it is the same with the latest beta (in betas I have to use a third party app to monitor screen time since the in-built battery app is buggy as hell). If compared to beta 1, the auto-brightness seems to have improved (it used to need more time to change the brightness level) as well as the auto-rotation (in some situations it was jerky). The only Google app that wasn’t synchronising in the background, Photos, now syncs just fine. Camera (true for both betas with one difference mentioned at the end): This department is kind of a mixed bag for me. While I was genuinely impressed with the camera on the stable versions (except for the 4K video and its sound recorded at extremely low values), I can’t say that I’m happy with all the under the hood changes in the new Camera app. For starters, the noise reduction and auto white balance are inconsistent. The new Camera app might be using the same AI in the background as the Meizu 15’s Camera (by the way, Meizu 15 also has a problem with AWB) so these inconsistencies may as well be how the new app works and not a bug. Furthermore I have a feeling that some kind of auto HDR might have been applied to some of the photos that I have taken because they just seem somewhat HDRish… On the positive side, lowlight photography has noticeably improved and I like the new bokeh effect A LOT. The only difference that I have experienced between the two betas is lowlight photography that was just a tiny bit better in the first beta (more refined noise reduction algorithm which led to more details in the photo). I will edit and update my post as time passes. Cheers. (Of course I'm well aware that what I've written isn't true for all the users of this brilliant phone.) | |
