WilliCJ: I can't find anything on this forum about using a flash tool for an M3 Max (it might be just me). Do you know if there is a flash tool that will work on a Meizu - specifically my M3 Max? I've found so

Hello!
I would take a factory reset again with option to erase all data, connect device with Meizu account and install Google play services and than install Firmware 6.3. What about your Internet connection on your device, is it fast and stable enough to download Update package?

smartphonecore3 replied at 2018-09-06 05:21 I've tried that, and still get the "firmware corrupt" message. When the device restarted, I did get a "Root access" request message though, is that normal? I've been using my home internet connection, which is fast (enough) and stable, but I've just downloaded the zip files over my 4G connection just in case, but (obviously) had the same result. CJ

smartphonecore3 replied at 2018-09-13 16:16 Hey! That's where I got the ones I've tried... specifically http://dl-res.flymeos.com/Firmware/Flyme/MAX/6.3.0.0/intl/20180420102358/a073e974/update.zip Still not getting anywhere though! The phone continually tells me that the firmware is corrupt. I don't see how it can be the firmware that I've downloaded, so it must be the phone, and I've taken it back to factory as best I can, but it does seem to stay Rooted, so it's obviously not real "Factory". More suggestions please!

Hello!
Try this: turn off your phone, press at same time power and volume up or down button for some time. See what happens and read carefully what is next step.

smartphonecore3 replied at 2018-09-13 19:01 Power & Volume up gives me the Firmware upgrade window (with start and restart buttons). Power & Volume down gives me the Meizu logo with very, very small "Fastload..." at the bottom - but can't do anything from there except reboot.
