First time you just leave the playstore connected to internet.. It may be consuming the bandwidth to update itself - SO once the playstore is up to date, your apps will get downloaded in smoother way.

If you useing wifi for download then switch of and try mobile network.
Also try to settings>apps>clear data and caches of download manager and playstore. | |
