I am a middle-aged man. I enjoy my smartphone very much, but I am the one in control of my life.
My phone beeps, whistles, and rings at least 100 times a day, and unless it is a tone from one of my "important" contacts (wife, kids), I just may ignore it.
The point that I tell people who complain is that the smartphone is for MY convenience, not theirs.
