The world's most popular messaging service has updated its iOS and Android apps and added five brand new features

If you're one of the one BILLION people that use WhatsApp , then you're going to be able to take advantage of some cool new features.

The Facebook-owned messaging companyhas released its latest update this week and, if you use an iPhone, you can go to the App Store and update right now.

The new version (officially called 2.12.15) brings in five new features that improve how you interact with your besties and how the app performs on your iPhone.

And fear not - if you use an Android smartphone, the new features have also been launched on Google's platform.

1)Photo sharing -

You could always sling pictures through a WhatsApp conversation, but the new update expands where you can get your snaps from.Other apps, like Dropbox, Google Drive or Microsoft's OneDrive are all supported. You'll see the option to use another app appear at the bottom of the screen when you select your photos.

2)Document sharing -

WhatsApp will have you banishing the thought of using email to send documents to your friends and colleagues.Just as with photos, you can now send documents through your conversations. You'll see the option appear when you click on the arrow in the bottom left hand corner. One caution though - the app will only support documents up to 100MB in size.

3)Video zoom -

No more squinting at your screen trying to make out the detail in a grainy viral video that's been sent your way.You can now zoom in on videos playing in the app just by pinching your fingers.

4)Background colours -

The new update lets you replace the standard background with one of your choice.Whatsapp provides a variety of block colours to choose from, but you can just as easily choose your own one from your photo library. You'll find the option in the app's settings menu.

5)Storage space -

One of the issues with Whatsapp is that it took up a lot of space on some smartphones. The company has done some grunt work with the new update and reduced the amount of space the app requires to function. That's music to our ears as it means there's more space on your iPhone for storing funny GIFs, messages and more music.
