Google
launched the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update around late October. While the update is yet to make its way to most smartphones, talks about next iteration of Android OS have already started. Dubbed as ‘Android N,’ the OS is said to gain support for split-screen multitasking, which will let users have two different apps running side by side. Working of this feature will be similar to what we’ve seen on Apple’s iPad Air 2 and iPad Pro running iOS 9.Details of the upcoming feature were teased by the team behind Google’s Pixel C team, who recently conducted an AMA on Reddit. “We’re working on lots of things right now for N that, of course, we wish we had, you know, yesterday, but we’d spoil the surprise of N if we shared all of them. Split screen is in the works,” said Andrew Bowers, director for consumer hardware at Google.

he team also mentioned that they are working on bringing DisplayPort support for USB Type-C connector. The working of this might be similar to Windows Continuum feature. However, it’s not clear if it will be a part Android N or bundled with upcoming Android M update. Google is also working on smaller updates for its Pixel C tablet, which the search giant expects to roll out along with monthly security updates.
