The solution is to upgrade to the latest version of flyme. This bug was fixed in version 5.1.9. You can see this thread for getting some more info.

I am unable to receive any whatsapp and hangout messages instantly while the display is off. Messages are only received once i manually open the app. With Wi-Fi or without Wi-Fi connection. I don't know what to do for change this.

ockie replied at 2016-07-21 14:33 So even that did not help. The last thing I did out of desperation was to disable "aut clean" in the cleaner function in the security app. That seems to have now resolved it. Meizu, it is nice that you try and keep the battery life and memory usage as efficient with your firmware, but when it messes up a person's actual use of the phone and apps stop working because of it, then it becomes pointless.

OK ... I have done this now. Security app....accelaration, whitelist google play services and whatsapp. Hopefully that works.

OK, so now it seems the security app keeps restarting on its own. I force stop it in settings/apps and then 30 minutes later when I go check, it is running again and Whatsapp stops getting notifications.
How can I prevent the security app from restarting? Why is Meizu not fixing this with a small update????? This is starting to make me lose faith in the brand.

OK....that seems to have fixed the problem. Thank you Orkyshemy
@ Meizu....if you want to load your own custom ROM on your phones and sell it to the western world, may I suggest you actually test your firmware with a basic app like Whatsapp that is in use by the millions of people that live there? Does not seem that much to ask.

Orkyshemy replied at 2016-07-20 14:39 Thank you very much. I have done that now. Will test it in a little while once phone have been asleep for a while to see if notifications come through for Whatsapp. Telegram works fine, just Whatsapp that has got this problem.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G268EFHZUp0 basically what you just do is go to settings > apps > all (show all running apps) > and then disable the running of security app. so far everything works great! good luck.
