[Weekly Discussion #3] External Storage Support: Is it Essential for a Phone? Edited by ScarletSpidy at 2018-04-29 16:52
Hello Fellow Fans, Welcome to the third Volume of Weekly Discussion Series When choosing a new phone, the amount of internal storage space is often one of several key factors which influences the decision to buy one phone over another. But exactly how much of the promised 16, 32 or 64GB is actually available to use varies greatly between devices. Internal Versus External Memory When considering the memory specifications of any phone, it is important to understand the difference between internal and external (or expandable) memory. Internal memory is the manufacturer-installed storage space, usually 16, 32 or 64GB, where the operating system, pre-installed apps and other system software is installed. The total amount of internal storage cannot be increased or decreased by the user, so if your phone has only 16GB of internal storage and no expansion slot, this is all the storage space you will ever have. And remember, some of this will already be used up by the system software. External, or expandable, memory refers to a removable Micro SD card or similar. Many devices which feature a MicroSD card slot are sold with a card already inserted. But not all phones will have this extra storage space included, and not all phones even have the facility to add external memory. To overcome the problem of reduced internal storage space, several high-end smartphones are sold with free cloud storage accounts. This could be 10, 20 or even 50GB. Another Option is, Cloud Storage To overcome the problem of reduced internal storage space, several high-end smartphones are sold with free cloud storage accounts. This could be 10, 20 or even 50GB. Whilst this is a nice extra, bear in mind that not all data and files can be saved to cloud storage (apps for example). You will also be unable to access files stored in the cloud if you do not have a Wi-Fi or mobile data connection. Share your Opinions, "Support of External Storage: Is it Essential for a Smartphone?" Its not essential, but is very WELL accepted!
Most phones are 6+ inch. There is a lot of space inside. You can probably do a sim+sim+microsd. If you make only 6+64 and 256+8gb ram without 128+6, it would he great if you have microsd!

First, wow, this website is really extreamly slow. It took me 1 minute to open this page.
Second. External storage is so important that many users will not chose a cell phone without TF slot, when they have both choise. Reason. The price gap is around RMB200/32GB. And for this price u can get a 128GB TF card. Or, u can upgrade ur phone from 64GB to 128GB with TF card and save RMB200. And this is can be up to 10% of your cell phone price. I'm using a Mblu NOTE6 32GB+32GB TF card. The photo and video clip will store in TF card first for more than half a year. It works well and never give me a problem.

It's definitely essential for my Meizu M6 Note since Flyme OS uses 6GB of internal storage! Yes, that much just for the OS itself! Therefore and after installing only a handful of apps and updating and start using the phone, I'm left with 2,5GB (I have the 16GB)!!
