How to create desktop shortcut? Edited by vicent4u at 2016-05-06 13:11
Hi, I'd like to create a desktop shortcut for launching an app which is in a folder. The app is in the folder alongside with similar apps because I like this organization but I want to be able to launch the app from the desktop, without opening the folder containing it. I thought that creation of desktop shortcuts on Android was a matter of long pressing the app icon but it doesn't work. I have Flyme 5.6 beta. In the Security Center->Permissions there is a Shortcut section that apparently can be used to install shortcuts but I don't know how to use it: I can select an application and say Allow to install shortcut, but then nothing seems to happen. Maybe this setting is to prevent the creation of desktop shortcuts by third-party apps, but I'm not sure (once again the user interface of the Security Center is not self-explanatory :( Could anybody help me, please?

What I want is to be able to create desktop shortcuts for apps which are in folders. This way you needn't to open the folder in order to launch the app, just tap the shortcut on the desktop and enjoy. In other words, the same functionality that you have in your PC. I suppose it can be implemented in many different ways but I have only two ideas right now. Idea 1 - long press the icon of the app which you want to shortcut. - a popup menu with two entries is displayed: first entry allows to uninstall the app (as it happens now when you long press an icon, so this functionality is preserved). Second entry creates the desktop shortcut in the home screen. Idea 2 - tap on a blank area of the screen - you are presented with options: "Arrange icons", "Wallpaper", "Add widget" AND "Add desktop shortcut" - choose "Add desktop shortcut". An installed apps list is presented to you (something similar to what happens when you choose "Add widget"). Choose an app and a shortcut will be added in the home screen I prefer the first idea because it seems more intuitive to me: if you want to do something with an icon normally you will tap the icon instead of a blank area of the screen.

Ok :) So you can maybe write what solution you expected and how to do it (screens, small tutorial) for others ? :P

Thanks for your answer but, as I said in the OP, the app is in the folder because of organization reasons and I want it to be that way. The QuickShortcutMaker app solved my problem.

There is no way to make shortucts like you want to in Flyme OS 5. Instead of just take app from folder and put in on desktop.

I've solved the problem by installing the QuickShortcutMaker app. I haven't found a single way to create the shortcut with Flyme 5 :(
