Google confirms Android N supports 3D Touch Edited by Pulak at 2016-04-19 22:32
Google has confirmed that the new Android N feature called Launcher Shortcuts will work on pressure-sensitive displays like that found on Meizu Pro6. While the ability to recognize pressure-sensitive input first appeared way back in Android 1.0 and has been functional since API level 5, Google may have finally found a useful way to implement it. Unfortunately, the list of devices with a Force Touch display is pretty limited right now – just the Huawei Mate S, Vernee Apollo, ZTE Axon mini and recently launched Meizu Pro 6 are the only few. Well none of them are likely to be jumping to Android N any time soon. So while the support may well be there, our best bet is still to cross our fingers for a force-sensitive display on this year’s Nexus or another new device likely to get Android 7.0 out of the box later this year. In the meantime, we can rely on the ersatz “Force Touch” alternatives we already have: long-press and gestures. So we may see a Google Nexus with 3d force touch screen this year. Source

The most LOL is that Meizu will have to get rid of its own 3D Press API to support much more widespread Google-implemented tech. Or, again as it's getting common - to sit one ass on two chairs - cook two firmwares - with Launcher Shortcuts from Google for Global market and 3D Press for China. More bugs, more compatibility issues and even longer update periods are coming. After all, guess what tech will be more popular among software developers worldwide? If not to consider that Meizu will implement Android N when Google will release some new Android (P?)? Thats just ridiculous.

That's great.. Hopefully we will see more things coming up with 3d touch

Hope pro 6 support google force touch, as android has wide support and development community while current 3d press uses meizu's own separate sdk, which might not many developer accommodate.

So it's now given that the next nexus phone or one of the big brands (Samsung, LG etc) flagship will be coming will have Force Touch, else there's no point adding the api for it. I hope Meizu will be wise enough to use google api when it comes out :>
