Everyone who has been using Android devices for a quite reasonable amount of have always heard of 'Root' or 'Rooting'. But what is this 'Root'? What does it do? What are its pros and cons? So let's just dive into all the details of the term 'Root".

What is 'Root' or 'Rooting'?

In short, Rooting is the process of gaining Root access of a Android device. Gaining of Root Access means to attain privileged control (known as root access) over various Android subsystems. Rooting your phone can give you the opportunity to do so much more than your phone can do out of the box — whether it’s wireless tethering, speeding it up with overclocking, or customizing the look of your phone with themes or directly modifying system files.



What does 'Root' do?


Rooting only practically does nothing. It only gains access to otherwise hidden system settings and files. Many apps are there which require Root Access for their normal operations. Rooting is also necessary for one who wish to customize their device upto the system level. Xposed Framework, one of the most widely used customization app rely on this Root access for their operation. There are numerous other apps and tools too which requires Root like LuckyPatcher, Titanium Backup, etc.

  • You can easily remove carrier or manufacturer installed bloatwares.
  • You can create 'Real' backups of practically anything of your device.
  • Enhanced customization.
  • Overclocking your device or underclock.
  • Boost Your Phone's Speed and Battery Life.
  • Blocking off Ads in any apps.
  • Flashing of Custom Kernels.

Cons:



  • Official software updates or OTA updates gets broken.
  • Sometimes some apps locked out like the banking apps.
  • Device Warranty voids with most manufacturers.
  • Device security is totally in your hands now.




Ways to Root your device:


Process of Rooting of every device is separate. But most devices can be rooted by flashing Supersu zip from a custom recovery. Moreover, Cyanogen Mod users have already the Root permissions given in the developer settings.\

Rooting your device brings out the ultimate experience you can get from your device. It can make your device go super fast to super slow, gorgeous to dull, and also phone to brick. So, just be aware while rooting and try not to harm your device.
