Custom ROMs can be flashed on to any android devices where you can have root access. We have some very popular custom ROMs out there in the market.

Wrong, root access won't make you able to flash custom ROMs by itself, you also need an unlocked bootloader AND custom recovery support (TWRP, ClockWork Mod, Phillz Touch, Cyanogenmod recovery, etc) as well as having access to kernel sources to be able to build custom ROMs for an specific device. What am i trying to say? Well, Meizu has given us, the users and the developers, NO WAY TO UNLOCK THE BOOTLOADER OF MANY MEIZU DEVICES, WHICH MEANS, NO CUSTOM RECOVERY AND NO CUSTOM ROM DEVELOPMENT, which kills a smartphone's lifespan by a looooong time, since as soon as the manufacturer drops the software support, you won't be able to get the latest security patches, system tweaks for performance and battery life or just simple features... and with Meizu you don't even need to get their software support dropped, you just won't get any base android version updates, just more and more and more pointless updates to a very heavy customization layer (Flyme) and NO WAY TO USE OTHER ROMS IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT. It might be good for their chinese and indian market, but this kind of behaviour is like Apple, you're forced to use their OS and their OS only and at some point you will have to buy a new device because you won't have further software support. Most users are still stuck at Android 5.1 even having Flyme 6, and in a few years we will end up without a lot of app support because we will end up having compatibility issues due to having an old android version. Phones with Android 4.2 and 4.3 don't have support for lots of apps, and there are a lot of users who can't be spending money on a new phone every two years just because they can't update their software or, like in meizu's cases, can't even relay on custom rom support.

This is the main reason why Xiaomi has a bigger market share than Meizu in China, better software support and better Custom ROM ecosystem.

In the following months i will be getting a Zuk Z2, which has official Android Nougat and a ton of stable custom roms (thanks to Zuk releasing their kernel sources and letting us unlock the bootloader with ease)

I really don't understand the utility of this topic as Meizu use a fork of Android system.

I have tried CM 14 and MIUI 8 for M2, frankly speaking I desperately needed the change, but being unofficial roms there were lot of crashes. That's when I've realized every device got its own beautifully optimized rom from the manufacturer. Fly me is a bit better of them all.

I don't know what's the purpose of this topic when it's obvious that Meizu will never unlock the bootloader for us

I think it's time to change

Goodbye Meizu
