WE LOVE MEIZU ============== Recent weeks have been busy weeks for Meizu and their fans. Announcement of colourful Flyme 6 (stable) followed by recent product launch of the gorgeous Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus with innovative design language accompanied by the high-end flow earphones have created a wave of excitement among us. Along with immense excitement, it also brought mammoth expectations for fans from both Meizu and Flyme team. It will be harsh to say that now it is high time for Meizu and Flyme team to fulfil their fans expectations so I would conserve myself by saying that it is time for Meizu and Flyme to give proper response to their fans. THINGS GOING SOUTH =================== I have been observing Meizu and all developments around it for years and as a fan, I would like to see the brand grow from strength to strength. For that we all know how important is the fans and their emotions. However, for past year or so, I have witnessed a degrading rate in popularity of the brand in international scenario and I would like to share few reasons that I have perceived over the years for this. Let me begin with an example so that the situation became clear to you all. Now let us pay some attention to the recent product launch because on the same day Xiaomi also held a product launch event. Before beginning to analyse of the happenings around the launch event let me make this clear that I am not talking about how well it went in homeland (China), I am concerned about up to what degree it left its impression upon the international tech society. First thing, I noticed is the number of fans following the launch event and number of likes and comments every update earned on social media during the event. I am very sad to say that there was a huge difference when I compared the statuses after 1 hour of respective update time. In case of Xiaomi it was in the range on 400-500 likes with hundreds of comments while I just feel bad to mention the numbers for Meizu because none of the updates generated more than 100 likes (Except one with only 153 likes) while number of comments were like 1 comment, 9 comments, 5 comments etc. (I am adding a screenshot of the same for your verification). For me this is a pathetic result for an international company. It’s time that you sit down and analyse what is going wrong. Now let’s talk about the responses in the international tech society and media coverage and it boils down to how much hype Meizu created around the product launch. I was left upset again not to see proper media coverage after the launch (there was no significant coverage up to 3/4 hours) while in case of Xiaomi media was flooded with news within an hour after the launch. If we look at the products, the Meizu’s are class ahead and that is the reason why I am a big fan of brand Meizu - always trying to do innovative things, building products of great craftsmanship, setting trends for others. We can recall the likes of MX5 with metal middle and plastic top - bottom design that everyone adopted, while all including Apple adopted the beautifully bent antenna line design of the pro6/6plus. Recent announcement Pro7 and Pro7 plus is again going to a trendsetter with unique implementation of a secondary display giving us host of new opportunities. With such innovative designs and unique ideas, standing by your side Meizu should have been a prominent global brand than what is holding Meizu back. If you ask me, the answer is simple your fans are upset. If I talk about my country (India) I have witnessed the rise of other brands like Xiaomi, the three sisters of BBK electronics viz. Oppo, Vivo and Oneplus in last two years while have seen Meizu’s popularity diminishing day by day. STAND AGAINST VoLTE SUPPORT: ============================ This is the biggest of all problems for Meizu in Indian market because at present situation if you are launching a 4G phone in Indian market without VoLTE support then it is definitely going to be a super flop. Now let’s look at all the Meizu phones launched in India – M1 NOTE, M2 NOTE, M3 NOTE, M3S, M5 and only flagship to ever reach Indian shore the MX5. Out of these six phones I think only one (M5) has official VoLTE support while M3 NOTE supports VoLTE (in older Flyme 5 but not in Flyme 6) after a long settings modification through MTK engineering app (no inherent support by Flyme OS) which is not stable. It is shameful that even the smallest of the brands in India is providing VoLTE support for their phones while it seems Meizu stand alone against providing VoLTE support to their phones. I have seen all enquires about VoLTE support in the forum get no clear answers and responses itself seems like beating around the bush with no definite outcome. At this point Flyme team should issue a notification on whether works on VoLTE support is going on or not for their old models. If yes, for which models and if not, it will be better if Flyme team communicate clearly and let people know that they do not need to expect and wait for an update and move on for next device. EATEN BY SHADOWS: ================== This is what happens when you launch old phones and have to fight hard and live under the shadows of latest offering by rival brands. Meizu launched only one flagship in India while rivals are launching all of their flagships almost simultaneously with their homeland (China). Oneplus launched all its variants starting from OnePlus One, two, 3, 3T to the latest OnePlus 5 while Huawei has stepped up and released the top variant of Honor 8 Pro (8 GB + 128 GB) to compete the OP5. Meizu remained shy and never launched the MX6, Pro6 and Pro6 Plus here. I think Meizu should think about the launching Pro7 and Pro7 Plus (highly unlikely looking at the supported LTE bands) and explore the vast Indian market. Even Pro6 Plus at right price could be great phone for Indian market. If Meizu is only looking for the low and mid-range market they need to refresh it timely and of course with VoLTE as a must have. MAN OF WORDS: ============== ‘Man of words’ is surely not a term Flyme team would like to have in their dictionary because we all have seen how often dates related to release of beta and stable versions of Flyme 6 jumped like a mad man in an open field. However, it’s true that I am not very upset about this but for my observation most of the people are. This has a great negative impact on fans and Flyme need to be conscious about such happenings in the future. AFTER SALES SERVICE AND EASY AVAILABILITY OF ACCESSORIES: ============================================= Definitely, improvements are expected in this department. It is certainly not the case that there are no service centres but concern is that they take ages for a simple repair (which should take 1/2 days at maximum). 30-45days for a screen replacement!! I would love to see other Meizu products in the market like earphones, Bluetooth earphone (ep 51), Headphone (HD50), Bluetooth speakers (Lifeme bts30). Meizu could have easily created a market of their own with these products because all these products are great for the asking price and better than most of the respective options available in the market. Let alone Xiaomi, even Gionee has made accessories available in their site for all. I just wonder why Meizu can’t. WHAT IS THERE INSIDE YOUR BAG FOR THE FANS? ========================================== As international fans we are in two minds, little confused and don’t know what to expect from Meizu and Flyme team due to unclear copy paste responses like “ Thank you for contacting Meizu, please stay tuned for more updates” I would love to see responses from members from other nations in the comment section because I wonder these problems are only associated with Indian market or have their roots spread to other nations. | |
