Depends on our needs. For me I am in a position, that smartphone has become a part and parcel of my life. I don't go to bank, I don't put myself in the long queue for paying bills, I don't go to the grocery shop... Everything I do on the move or in the bed before sleeping . Can't leave without a phone.
Smartphones gave more flexibility to adjust personal and professional life...

November, 2014 - January, 2016. Yes I've survived with a Nokia Asha 210. Not because I couldn't afford a phone or not because I didn't need it to the peaks. Just bcos every phone had a shorter lifespan literally, except feature phones. Yupp, I still managed to facebook and whatsapp, guess those are the minimum requirements a human thinks to stay connected. Finally I understood the magic of multitasking and the real sense of its necessity. Hence, Meizu M2 happened, another plunge into the world of smartphone, starting slowly. I still treasure my feature phone Just in case. Oh btw....what was the vote about? Hmm surviving without a smartphone in 2016, nope I don't think it'd be possible. Still voted for Yes, it'd be possible. Guess, that's what happens in a real voting system too. You want to vote something else and you end up voting something else.

I couldn't. Even public transport in my city is based a lot on mobile phones (timetables, live tracking bus/tram, etc)...
