The lost photos can be recovered if you have a backup of those pictures. If you have a habit of creating backup then obviously your photos are also available. If not then I would suggest you to use a recovery tool like Android Photo Recovery. This is one of the best way to retrieve deleted photos without any backup. It does not matter how the photos are deleted, as this software scans the entire device to find out the lost photos.
