Updating 'converted' chinese versionHello,
I have received a chinese version of the MX6 (I guess, seeing the box and the model version M685Q on the box). It has been ‘converted’ to an international version (I see the model M685H in the settings and I have a ‘G’ firmware 5.2.2.3G). They made the version M685Q believe it is a M685H version. Then they put an international firmware and then they block the OTA update (for a reason, so I am not sure about putting a new international firmware, even manually) I bought it because they said OTA update was supported, but it is not the case. Is it safe to update the device manually by copying the latest ‘G’ firmware (5.2.5.0G) to the device and booting in recovery mode ? Thanks for any feedback ! | |

Well, it doesn't work.
I have tried with the two latest firmwares but I get a 'Firmware corrupt' message. Not because the firmware is corrupt, but because it is a chinese version of the phone, and if I understand correctly, there is a check on the IMEI to be sure to install the chinese firmware on the chinese version. The seller has done some tricks to bypass that but now the updates are blocked. Should I switch to the chinese firmwares (the system in English is ok for me) ? I don't want to stay with the first firmware of the phone, but at the same time, I don't want to do risky things... | |

For the record, I have been able to install a Chinese firmware manually (by downloading it directly on the device).
The OS can be in Chinese or in English. There is no Google Play Services nor app to install it, so I've had to download Google Installer from the Meizu App Store. I've also had to delete some bloatware, but except this, my device is like I wanted it to be (OS in English, keyboard in French, OTA updates). | |
